A welcome return to one of the loveliest – and least spoilt – regions of Italy. Our base is the lovely little town of Bevagna, one of the most picturesque in central Italy. Our hotel, in keeping with the beauty of the town, is the exquisite Residenza Porta Guelfa, a family-run rural retreat set in its own grounds, yet five minutes’ walk from the town centre where, incidentally, the family own one of the best restaurants in the area. This is rural Italy at its most attractive, with lashings of high culture and fantastic gastronomy.
Bevagna is a perfect base for exploring all the treasures of this incomparable región. Our visits embrace Assisi, Spoleto, Perugia, Foligno and the fairy-book village of Spello. We spend the morning at a cantina (winery) in Montefalco where, among other things, we taste the unique Sagrantino di Montefalco, one of Italy’s truly great wines.
