A Spring Train Journey

Mallorca Grande Luxe

We are delighted to announce a tour of the lovely island of Mallorca featuring two of the world’s great hotels: the Palacio Ca Sa Galesa in Palma (four nights) and La Residencia (three nights) in Deia. These hotels offer comfort and atmosphere of a spectacular standard and from them we can explore the remarkable cultural and natural heritage of Palma and the north of the island. The true glory of these hotels can be best appreciated by consulting their Websites.

Palma is one of Spain’s great medieval cities with a magnificent cathedral (featuring additions by Gaudí) and several outstanding art galleries. Its Old Quarter is extensive and wonderfully restored. We take the train north to Soller and from Deia (an exquisite village in its own right) our itinerary takes us to the legendary monastery of Valldemossa, the remote and atmospheric village of Galilea and along the incomparable coast-line.

DAY 1: We fly into Palma and make our way to the heart of the Old Quarter and our home for four days, the Hotel Palacio Ca Sa Galesa. No better base exists from which to explore this wonderful city.

DAYS 2, 3 & 4: Palma offers an abundance of cultural experiences. Its medieval quarter is outstanding and dominated by one of the world’s great gothic cathedrals (complete with startling embellishments by the great Gaudí). It is indeed one of the best-preserved of all Spanish cities still perfectly reflecting its Age of Gold towards the waning of the Middle Ages. Among our visits are the Almudaina, the Moorish palace, used to this day by the Spanish Royal Family on their frequent visits to the island; the home and gallery of the great Catalan artist Joan Miró; the March Foundation collection of 20thcentury Spanish art; the splendid Bellver Castle and the many other museums which underline Palma’s status as a major cultural city.

DAY 5: On Day 5 we take the famous railway up through the almond groves to the little town of Sóller. From there we
continue on the historic tram down to Port Soller, a charming coastal resort and then on to our base for the second half
of the tour: Deià and the Hotel La Residencia.

DAYS 6, 7 & 8: Northern Mallorca is another world: mountains, isolated villages and dramatic coastlines. Our itinerary takes us to Valldemossa, a fine monastery town, famously and briefly the home of Chopin and Georges Sand, and then on to the exquisite hill-top village of Galilea. We also take to the hills and visit the spiritual heart of Mallorca in Lluc and the atmospheric town of Pollensa. Through the tour we shall enjoy the marvellous and varied cuisine and wines of the Balearics whether in the lovely family restaurants of Palma or the outstanding El Olivo restaurant in La Residencia.

On Day 8, it is a short drive from Deià to Palma and our return flight.

THIS TOUR DEPARTS: 7th January 2010 OUR HOTELS: the Palacio Ca Sa Galesa, next to the cathedral in Palma.
